The team has a pedigree, and that pedigree has hands-on Nintendo experience. Going back further, Freestyle Games made both of the DJ Hero games, which were both fantastic. Sing Party was a well-developed game that made use of the Wii U’s features it just was a rote karaoke game with a limited song catalog on a system that floundered right out of the gate. However, the fundamental aspects of the karaoke game were sound. That game, Sing Party, had all the appearances of a serious flop after launch, as all plans for DLC and expansion vanished almost instantly. If you don’t remember, FreeStyle Games actually created a Wii U launch game directly with Nintendo. In addition to the PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U versions, the new Guitar Hero will also be available in fully featured playable-on-your-TV form for select mobile devices. At this early stage, we don’t know what kind of additions or subtractions will be going with the Wii U version, but considering developer FreeStyle Games’ experience as a Wii U developer and the way Guitar Hero Live is being presented, the Wii U version should be just as full featured as the other versions on home consoles and even mobile. With no Rock Band 4 on the way, Guitar Hero Live is the only rhythm game heading to Nintendo’s system this fall. And the game also supports USB microphones for those shredders who also aspire to sing.If you have any interest in the budding music game renaissance going on in 2015 with Rock Band 4 and Guitar Hero Live, you only have one option on Wii U. Other guitar features include the return of the whammy bar, a tilt sensor to activate Hero Powers, and a special button to access GHTV at a moment's notice. The new guitar controller features six buttons split into two rows of three, with the lower difficulty levels making use of only a single row. Guitar Hero Live uses a classic note highway system, with gamers flicking the strum bar and pressing buttons to match the scrolling notes. The Star Power feature from earlier Guitar Hero games has been replaced by new Hero Powers that help players earn higher scores. The GHTV mode also let multiplayer fans compete in local or online contests, and gamers earn in-game currency to unlock more songs and acquire items. The new GHTV mode offers a continuous broadcast of music videos on several different channels, and it offers more than 100 songs from artists as varied as Bruno Mars, Bob Dylan, and Skrillex. The single-player career mode finds gamers taking the stage as the lead guitarist of various fictional bands, performing in small venues, giant arenas, and eventually in the fictional festivals Rock the Block and SoundDial. ![]() ![]() Other new features include a reimagined single-player career mode, a multiplayer mode designed resemble a music television station, and a new six-button guitar controller. ![]() Developer FreeStyleGames handled the reboot, and they bring a variety of new features to the series, most notably a new broadcast presentation designed to simulate the feeling of truly being on stage by using full-motion video of real bandmates and real fans reacting to the performance.
